WARNING
Information on installation, adjustment and replacement of products that cannot be found in the user manual will be provided to you at the place of purchase or from the distributor. The dealer's manual for professional and experienced bicycle mechanics can be found on our website (https://si.shimano.com).
For safety, please read this "User's Manual" carefully before use, follow it for proper use, and keep it for future reference.
The following instructions must always be followed to prevent personal injury and physical damage to the equipment and surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage that may occur if the product is used incorrectly.
DANGER - Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING - Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION - Failure to follow the instructions could result in personal injury or physical damage to the equipment and surroundings.
WARNING
- Because each bicycle may handle slightly differently depending on the model, learn proper braking technique (including brake lever pressure and bicycle handling characteristics) and the operation of your bicycle. Improper use of the bicycle's braking system can result in loss of control, which could lead to serious injury from a fall or collision.
- Do not disassemble or modify the product. This may cause the product to malfunction, fall unexpectedly, and cause serious injury.
- Do not subject the product to strong impact or throw it. Failure to do so may result in rupture, overheating, or problems during operation.
- Do not allow grease to adhere to the metal terminals. This may cause a wiring malfunction.
- Use only the specified button batteries. When replacing a button battery, replace both batteries with new ones at the same time. Using different types of button batteries or new and old button batteries together may cause the button batteries to rupture, leak, overheat, or ignite, which may result in fire, injury, or contamination of the surrounding area.
- Button batteries are dangerous and must be kept out of the reach of children. Never put batteries in your mouth or any part of your body. If swallowed or placed inside the body, serious or fatal injuries can occur within 2 hours. If this occurs or is suspected, seek medical attention immediately.
- Do not use this equipment in areas where children may be present. If the supplied button cell batteries are accidentally swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
- Dispose of button cell batteries in accordance with applicable local and/or state regulations governing disposal. Disposing of this product in a fire or hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting it, may cause the button cell batteries to explode.
- Do not use button cell batteries outside of the specified operating temperature ranges. If the battery is used or stored at temperatures outside these ranges, fire, injury, or operational problems may occur.
- Do not use button batteries if they show any leakage, discoloration, deformation, or other unusual signs. Failure to do so may result in rupture, overheating, or operational problems.
- If liquid leaking from button batteries comes into contact with your skin or clothing, immediately wash them off with clean water. The leaking liquid may damage your skin.
- Do not leave this product in an extremely high temperature environment, such as in a closed vehicle on a hot day, or near a heater. This may cause the button batteries to explode or release flammable liquid or gas.
- Do not expose this product to extremely low air pressure. This may cause the button batteries to explode or release flammable liquid or gas. Air transportation of this product is not a problem.
- When operating the shifting switch, be careful not to get your fingers caught in the derailleur. The powerful motor that drives the electronic gear shifting derailleur will run without stopping until the shifting position is reached.
- This hydraulic brake system has different braking characteristics from that of the rim brake type, indicating a relatively large braking force at the beginning of braking (higher than that of the rim brake type); please familiarize yourself with the braking characteristics sufficiently before use. If you ride a bicycle without thoroughly understanding the braking characteristics, braking may result in falling off the bicycle, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.
- The braking force of the hydraulic brake system increases with the size of the disc brake rotor (140 mm, 160 mm, 180 mm, 203 mm).
- Do not use a 203 mm disc brake rotor. This will increase the braking force excessively, which may cause loss of control of the bicycle, a fall, and serious injury.
- Use a 180 mm disc brake rotor only if you cannot obtain sufficient braking force with a 160 mm disc brake rotor during a test ride, such as when riding a road bike with electronic assistance or if the rider is heavy. Otherwise, you may lose control of the bicycle, fall, and be seriously injured.
- If you feel that the braking force is too strong or too weak, stop using it and consult your place of purchase or distributor. Loss of control of the bicycle may result in accidents or falls, which may result in serious injury.
- Keep your fingers away from the rotating disc brake rotor. The disc brake rotor is sharp enough to cause serious injury to your fingers if your fingers are caught in the holes of the moving rotor.
- Do not touch the calipers or disc brake rotor while riding or immediately after getting off the bicycle. During braking, the calipers and disc brake rotor become hot, so you may get burned if you touch them.
- Do not allow oil or grease to get on the disc brake rotor and brake pads. Riding the bicycle with oil or grease on the brake pads may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury due to a fall or collision.
- Check the thickness of the brake pads and do not use them if they are 0.5 mm or less thick. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and lead to serious injury.
- Do not use the disc brake rotor if it is cracked or deformed. The disc brake rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not use the disc brake rotor if its thickness is 1.5 mm or less. Also, do not use it if the aluminum surface is visible. The disc brake rotor may break and lead to serious injury due to a fall.
- Do not apply the brakes continuously. This may cause a sudden increase in brake lever force, causing the brakes to malfunction and leading to serious injury.
- Do not apply the brakes if there is fluid leakage. This may cause the brakes to malfunction and leading to serious injury.
- Do not apply the front brake too strongly. Doing so may cause the front wheel to lock and the bicycle to tip forward, causing serious injury.
- Since the required braking distance will be longer in wet weather, reduce speed. Apply the brakes in time and gently. You may fall or crash and be seriously injured.
- Wet road surfaces may cause the tires to lose traction. To prevent this, reduce speed and apply the brakes in a timely and gentle manner. If the tires lose traction, you may fall and be seriously injured.
WARNING
- Precautions regarding SHIMANO genuine mineral oil
- In case of eye contact, flush the eye with clean water and seek medical attention immediately. Contact with eyes may cause irritation.
- In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Skin contact may cause rashes and discomfort.
- Protect your nose and mouth with a protective respirator and use in a well-ventilated area. Inhaling mineral oil vapor or mist may cause nausea.
- After inhaling mineral oil vapor or mist, immediately move to fresh air. Cover yourself with a blanket. Stay warm in a stable position and seek professional medical attention.
Warm-up time
- Disc brakes have a certain warm-up time and braking power gradually increases with increasing warm-up time. Accidents or falls may occur due to loss of control of the bicycle, which may result in serious injury. The same situation occurs when replacing brake pads or disc brake rotors.
